A five-image photographic series made while travelling through Ukraine by car, roughly 1000 kilometres from the frontline.

The photographs observe everyday life from the road: towns, landscapes, recruitment posters, and cemeteries. At first glance, much of what appears in the frame seems ordinary. But signs of the war are present throughout the journey, often in places where everyday life continues almost normally.

"The title portrays the distance from the conflict zone, and the photographs appear to narrate a tale of partial normalcy. Yet, the depiction of normalcy becomes disquieting when the artist's camera captures recruitment posters or cemeteries of recently fallen heroes. The semblance of normalcy is merely superficial in a place where people's lives have been and continue to be profoundly touched, even from a significant distance, by the distressing effects of war."
